These shredded crockpot beef Hawaiian subs are a fun version of the ever popular Hawaiian roll sandwiches.  So easy, and so so good!

What is the best cut of beef to make this shredded crockpot beef?

This may be a hot take, but I am not a die hard chuck roast girl.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a good, slow-cooked, tender chuck roast.  However, they can be a little fatty, and I just don’t love that in a sandwich.  (I also don’t love burning my fingers trying to separate the fat from the meat, last minute ladies, you know what I’m talking about!)

That being said, I’m all for a good shredded sirloin roast.  Throw it in the crockpot, cook it low and slow, (maybe 1-2 hours longer than you would typically cook a chuck roast) and shred it when it’s done.  Minimal extra work, and just as good!  Save those chuck roasts for a good old pot roast supper!

Why use Hawaiian subs instead of typical rolls?

I love a good Hawaiian roll slider, but these subs have a little more heft to them.  Pile them high and they will still stay together.  1-2 sandwiches can be a meal (as opposed to 3-5 if you have a healthy appetite).  I had never heard of Hawaiian sub rolls until I found these at my local grocery store.  Find them here to see exactly what I am talking about.

Can I make these subs ahead of time?

You absolutely can!?Don’t bake them until you are ready to serve the sandwiches though, or the bread will get soggy.?The best way to to do this, is to return the sandwiches to the cardboard the buns came on.?Wrap the sandwiches and cardboard in plastic wrap and then into the bag that the buns came in.?Freeze for up to two months.

How do I make the crockpot shredded beef?

Everyone has a favorite way to make a roast in the crockpot for shredded beef. and this is one of the best (in my opinion).?Place your beef roast of choice, I like a sirloin roast, in a crockpot.?Cover with diced bell peppers, I use red and green peppers.?Top with a packet of french onion soup mix and 2-3 cups of beef broth, depending on the size of the roast.?Cover and cook on low for 9-10 hours or until beef shreds easily.?
